In October 2025, the very first Ichigo Ichie Live Painting Performance was created inside the Czech Pavilion at EXPO 2025 Osaka. Czech visual artist Vít Koďousek used Japanese sumi ink, a large sheet of paper laid on the floor, and twenty-five minutes of shared silence to turn the spirit of EXPO – the unrepeatable encounter – into something the audience could sit inside, breathe through, and carry home.
That circle has not stopped growing. From temples in Takarazuka and Kawanishi to the Waldorf Astoria Kyoto, from galleries in Dubai to schools in Kobe and the recent Sakai EXPO, more than thirty performances have followed.
During the Golden Week – from May 1 to May 6, 2026 – Vít returns to the grounds of Expo '70 Commemorative Park for the Wheat Food Sound Festival 2026 (麦食音祭2026), a six-day international festival conceived explicitly as a place to inherit the international connections born from EXPO 2025 and to experience "Beyond the Expo" through craft beer, food, music and culture.
Two performances each day. Free admission. A circle that begins in stillness and ends with a fragment of the painting in the hands of everyone in the room.
WHEN & WHERE: from May 1 till May 6, 2026 · two performances daily (times to be confirmed) Expo '70 Commemorative Park, Festival Plaza · Suita, Osaka ~10 minutes' walk from Banpaku Kinen Koen Station (Osaka Monorail) Free admission
