On Sunday May 17, 2026, Ritsumeikan University's Osaka Ibaraki Campus (OIC) opens its gates for Ibaraki × Ritsumeikan DAY 2026 – a community open day that drew more than 30,000 visitors last year. Cheerleading and brass-band performances in the Grand Hall. More than 150 programmes. Food trucks, model trains, festival stalls. And, this year, a dedicated After EXPO programme featuring original stamps and materials from the EXPO 2025 pavilions, allowing visitors to relive the closed Expo on campus.
In the middle of that movement, Czech artist Vít Koďousek will lay out a large sheet of paper, pick up a sumi ink brush, and draw a single, unrepeatable circle. Twenty-five minutes of stillness. No revisions. No second take.
The Ichigo Ichie Live Painting Performance was born inside the Czech Pavilion at EXPO 2025 last October as a tribute to the Japanese idea that every encounter is a one-time event that will never happen in exactly the same way again. Since then it has travelled to temples, galleries, hotels and schools across Kansai and beyond. On May 17, it comes to one of Kansai's busiest campuses for a full day of performances – opening the experience to families, students and the wider Ibaraki community.
"The circle created is like a symbol… a symbol of the journey, the connection, the bond." Kazuyuki Terao, Pumpkin Rocks
